With Digital India a work in progress, the primary concern has become making sure technology based skill development is making its way not just in private schools but especially, government schools. To this aim, the state Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education (KITE) will train as many as 60000 government school students in Kerala in electronics, hardware, cyber-safety and even animation in a two-day camp in September.
Time and venue of camp
This camp, which would be held at 1,531 centres across Kerala from September 7 to September 10, is part of the KITE organized ‘Hi School Kuttikootam’ programme that aims to provide regular training to students in the above fields.
“Hi-School Kuttikkootam has indeed become the largest student network of its kind in ICT in India. These students would in turn train other students in their schools. As many as one million students would be directly benefited immediately by this training in the coming days and this would have a larger and visible impact in the society,” said K. Anvar Sadath, Vice Chairman and Executive Director of KITE, according to IANS.
Here is what the children will learn at the camp:
- Using visual programming application ‘Scratch’ to create edutainment software
- Using raspberry mini-computer
- Preparation of circuits in the schools’ electronic kits
- Internet discipline and other cyber space related training
- Cyber safety and online privacy mechanisms
- Updating ‘Schoolwiki’
- Publishing school news online after forming a school news desk
- Training in computer hardware so students can operate and maintain ICT equipment provided in the classrooms along with any software installation and rectifying issues arising from connection problems
