OnePlus could soon launch a more powerful variant of the OnePlus 10 Pro, according to tipster Yogesh Brar. The company is apparently working on the purportedly named OnePlus 10 Ultra, which will feature improved cameras, faster processor, and better hardware than the Pro variant. Although nothing is confirmed yet, it is very likely that the OnePlus 10 Ultra could be launched in the 2nd half of 2022. According to Brar, the sharing of technologies between OnePlus and OPPO will result in the Ultra flagship. The recently launched OnePlus 10 Pro is a flagship but isn’t as feature-packed or impressive as something like the Xiaomi 11 Ultra (review).

OnePlus 10 Ultra

The tip from Brar, who has heard rumors that the OnePlus Ultra flagship will use technology developed by OPPO. Last year, OnePlus and OPPO teamed up to share technologies. As a result, the OPPO Find X5 was able to use the Hasselblad technology from OnePlus. Making use of this partnership, OnePlus will most likely borrow the OPPO-developed MariSilicon NPU chipset to improve its performance in both photos and videos.

The OnePlus 10 Pro is an excellent flagship in terms of performance, but despite the Hasselblad partnership for its camera, the imaging performance is still not flagship-like. Therefore, using a dedicated imaging processor may help the OnePlus 10 Ultra compete with the likes of the iPhone 13, Google Pixel 6 series, Xiaomi 11 Ultra, and the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S22 series.

Per Brar, the OnePlus 10 Ultra could be announced in the second half of 2022. The phone is currently in the EVT (Engineering Validation Test) phase. This means that the device is in its early alpha testing stage. If the report is true, we should start hearing about the Ultra flagship in the coming weeks. This would be the first Ultra smartphone from OnePlus, which has always used the Pro moniker for its top-end devices.
