A handful of IT consulting firms have scored contracts with the Department of Defence as part of a $28 million investment into defence innovations.
Adelaide-based Solinnov, Sydney-based Clearbox Systems and Adelaide-based Consunet were among the 15 Australian small businesses to receive contract wins to help develop “cutting-edge technologies” aimed at providing the department with “a capability edge”.
“This tranche of investments includes initial concept exploration and technology demonstration, through to prototyping and integrated capability demonstration and evaluation,” Minister for Defence Industry Melissa Price said in the announcement.
Solinnov scored the highest investment of the three, getting $2.3 million to develop a software-defined radio system, with the aim of using it for electronic warfare, communications and sensing domains.
Clearbox Solutions got $831,000 to develop a software tool to generate and manage cryptographic keys, which Defence plans to use for improving operations across the department.
Consunet meanwhile got $180,000 to develop software to enable “electromagnetic battle management” that will integrate with existing technology at the department.
Most of the contracts issued included communications technology like satellite, radio and antenna systems; technology for training soldiers; munitions systems and more.
